You won't find YouTube listed here. The online video sources listed here are for "smart" videos. These are more cerebral alternatives: documentaries, speeches, panel discussions, research reports and more on the arts, current events, business, science, etc. (The list is based on an article by Lee Gomes, WSJ, June 18, 2007). All the videos can be played on either RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, or QuickTime.

It costs $9.95 a month for access to a huge library of how-to and documentary videos, many of them originally made for broadcast sites like Landmark's Weather Channel. Users can test the site free for a week.
